HOME CHEF CHALLENGE

 

Welcome to our 2nd Annual Home Chef Challenge. The Health Museum invites all home cooks and aspiring amateur chefs to enter into our cooking competition.

Under the guide of professional chefs, each team will create an entire nutritious Thanksgiving themed meal using ingredients that cost $20 or less. 

Contest Rules:

1. All contestants must be 18 years or older and a sign a release form.

2. Two contestants per team.

3. Each team must use all ingredients in the mystery basket that will be provided.

4. Each team will have a total 45 minutes to prepare their culinary masterpiece. Teams will have 5 minutes to survey their mystery basket, 5 minutes to consult with their chef coach and 5 minutes to plan their meal. Teams will start cooking at five minute intervals so that the judges will have enough time to evaluate each contestant’s finished product on its own merits.

5. Each team will be provided the following: (1) skirted table; (1) portable double electric burner; (1) electric skillet; (1) toaster oven; (1) set of knives and pots/pans/cooking utensils; (2)aprons; (2) towels and (1)cutting board.  

6. THM will select a minimum of 3 proffesional chef judges to evaluate and score the recipe. Decision of the judges is final.

7. Each team will need to produce several plates of the recipe for the judges, a display plate for viewing and sample portions for spectator tasting.

Judging Criteria

Taste - 1 to 15 points

Presentation - 1 to 10 points

Originality - 1 to 5 points

In the event of a tie - High TASTE SCORE total of all judges wins
